History
Nearly fifty years ago, three brothers from Germany built a sawmill on Gall Creek in Gold Hill, Oregon. Dissatisfied with an imported gang saw they were using, they decided they could make a better saw themselves. After a few years they began building saws for other mills. Soon they found it more profitable to build quality plywood equipment for the forest products industry than it was to mill wood. In 1955 the Jeddeloh brothers got out of the sawmill business and started manufacturing gang saws. In 1957 they produced an automatic dryer-feeder machine. The first Sweed Chopper was built in 1956. By 1985 there was a Sweed machine in use on every continent except Antarctica.
Cascade Wood Products, Inc., a wood products manufacturer in White City, Oregon, bought the company in the summer of 1986. With the strong foundation of innovative engineering, quality manufacturing, and committed customer service, the company was in a great position to begin a decade of expansion and diversification.
Since 1986 management has concentrated its efforts on developing products that appeal to a variety of new markets. Currently Sweed has attained prominence in recycling equipment for the forest products industry, textiles, municipalities, utilities, large and small scrap processors, the beverage industry, the food-processing industry, the paper industry (including cardboard and paper board manufacturers), telecommunications, petroleum producers, retailers, metal fabricating, waste disposal, furniture manufacturing, wire manufacturing, the automotive industry, and sports equipment manufacturing. While this diversification was taking place, Sweed solidified its manufacturing systems and modernized its equipment to prepare for the rebirth of the wood products industry. Sweed is now poised and ready to equip U.S. and international timber processors with the finest material-handling systems available today.
Sweed continues to be dedicated to refining proven products for a wide variety of industries while always offering custom engineering and manufacturing of systems to meet specific customer needs.
