Years ago, chopping scrap banding was thought of as optional but with the explosive growth of the recycling industry and its demands for a higher grade of pre-processed scrap, chopping scrap banding is rapidly becoming a necessity. Most agree that a load of un-chopped banding is a waste of valuable dumpster space, and most recyclers consider hauling it a waste of fuel and labor. Scrap producers and recyclers agree- chopping the banding at the “point of generation” (POG) is the best possible solution. The 450WM XHD Turbo offers all the power and durability of the 450WM XHD with some key modifications that make it the ideal machine for processing high-volume plastic and PET banding.

Just like Sweed’s 450 Wide Mouth Extra-Heavy Duty chopper, the 450WM XHD Turbo is powered by a 1HP motor and equipped with a heavier flywheel, producing an aggressive cutting force. To turn the 450WM XHD into the perfect machine for chopping multiple strands of heavy plastic and PET banding, Sweed’s engineers gave the Turbo a strap-devouring in-feed speed of approximately 140 FPM, a substantial 35% increase over the standard Model 450. The Turbo’s dual rotating knives quickly chop strap to a finished length of about 2”, perfect for banding recyclers and scrap processors; and the 3.5” wide in-feed allows the operator to feed fistfuls of up to 8 pieces of banding in a single pass. Just like the other 450 models, the Turbo sits on a sturdy rolling Sweed stand for easy maneuverability.
